This playbook contains the main modifications to plays and terminology we have made to the Renegade Offense over the years. I hope you get some good ideas from reading the updated version of the Renegade as well as this playbook.
The formations I have included here are the best of the slew of similar Renegade formations that have surfaced during the era of the spread formation. Jag was a formation we actually ran prior to the development of the Renegade formation and, in fact, was the basis of the Renegade. Check out the Power Sweep that you can do from Jag. I love that modification because it is a throwback to the old Green Bay Lombardi type philosophy.
The RePo formation is a combination of the Renegade and the Pistol. They JAG formation has been updated from an Ace type formation with double nasty slots to a Pistol formation with double nasty slots.
Some of the major modifications have been 1) We found it was advantageous to flip our Slots and even Ends. We also leaned it wasn’t that complicated to do so. 2) Our innovations with implementing individual responsibilities on wristbands simplified complex blocking schemes for our players and made game communications much more effective. 3) We found the Renegade worked amazingly well with good athletes. Who would have guessed???
