Tater Tot Casserole

It must be stated that Chuck Norris and myself battled several onslaughts of BNDNs (Bohemian Nomadic Dwarf Ninjas) to keep this recipe from falling into the wrong hands. I’m posting it here because every self respecting football coach needs this recipe memorized. 

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (the leaner the better)
  • 1/2 onion , diced
  • 10.75 oz can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • “Liquid Gold” (Velveeta)
  • Frozen tater tots
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional Sour Cream

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat. The onions are optional but if you add them put them in about 2/3 of the browning process.
  2. Preheat oven to 350F.
  3. Lightly grease a medium sized glass cake dish.
  4. Pitch the browned hamburger into the dish.
  5. Dump the can of cream of mushroom into the dish.
  6. If you want the casserole creamer add about two blops of sour cream.
  7. Salt and Pepper then stir and spread evenly in the baking dish.
  8. Layer the top with thinly sliced Velveeta (Liquid Gold)
  9. Align Tots in geometrical alignment at the very top of the concoction. Lightly salt Tots with Lawry’s season salt (optional).
  10. Pitch entire concoction into the oven until Tots are golden brown. (25-35min).

What ever you do you never ever put green beans in this casserole… ever.  Some people do this and you feel like you should tell them it was good but in all reality it would have always been better if the green beans were on the side. 

Others will tell you to put some garlic in and still others use Worcester or Soy  sauce. Why mess with something simple and perfect??? If you want to put something on it mix up a batch of homemade Ranch Dressing and put that on top when it’s about to go in your mouth.
